Project Fatherhood is offered at Parenting Network’s Visalia, Porterville, and Dinuba.
Why:
Project Fatherhood’s mission is “To renew the biological imperative for fathers to care for their child so that no child feels like a fatherless child. And to accept the fact that the public sector will never be able to
raise children as well as a family can.”
Project Fatherhood initially began with the goal of addressing the issue of absentee fathers and fathers who are minimally involved in the lives of their children. The program was established for Fathers to take more of an active role in their child’s lives and upbringing, with special attention to those involved with child welfare services. The program aims to teach fathers how to become better parents, thereby enhancing the safety and quality of life for their children. This is achieved through fathers taking an active role and processing experiences and issues that affect their relationships with their children and partner. Additionally, the fathers develop skills and awareness by learning about topics such as domestic violence, substance abuse, communication, child development, healthy relationships.
* Individuals with sexual convictions will not be allowed in the groups.
Father Focused Parenting Classes offered through Project Fatherhood:
24/7 DAD
The 24/7 Dad curriculum was developed by the National Fatherhood Initiative for their fatherhood training program. The curriculum is evidence-based and encourages fathers to be involved, responsible, and committed to their child 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
The program is built around 5 domains:
- Self-awareness
- Fathering skills
- Parenting skills
- Relationship skills
- Self-care
Which enables men to establish long-lasting positive relationships with their children.
The curriculum is typically 2 hours a week over a 12-week period, but can be completed in 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the father’s needs.
