Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Finance Clerk to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role requires proficiency in various accounting software and a solid understanding of financial concepts, including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, and account reconciliation. The Bookkeeper will support both corporate and non-profit accounting functions, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks using accounting software such as QuickBooks
- Record journal entries accurately and timely, ensuring proper debits & credits allocation
- Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and balance sheets to ensure accuracy
- Prepare financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Handle accounts payable and receivable processes efficiently
- Assist with payroll processing and tax preparation activities
- Perform account analysis and general ledger reconciliation to maintain data integrity
- Support budgeting processes and financial report writing for internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and governmental accounting standards where applicable
- Maintain organized records of all financial transactions for audit readiness
Requirements
- Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping, GAAP, and financial concepts
- Experience with corporate accounting, non-profit accounting, or governmental accounting preferred
- Proficiency in bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, journal entries, and ledger management
- Knowledge of payroll processing and tax-related activities is a plus
- Ability to perform 10 key typing accurately for data entry tasks
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills
- Effective communication skills for preparing financial reports and collaborating with team members
- Prior experience in public accounting or technical accounting roles is advantageous
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.
- Demonstrated experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment processing, and reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping best practices.
- Experience allocating expenses across programs, grants, or cost centers.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP, Sage Intacct, or similar nonprofit accounting systems).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a part-time (20 hours per week) capacity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a grant-funded nonprofit organization with multiple funding sources.
- Familiarity with grant compliance requirements, including allowable costs and documentation standards.
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close activities.
- Prior experience preparing or supporting 1099 reporting and audit documentation.
- Knowledge of fund accounting principles.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Part-time position, 20 hours per week.
- May require flexibility around month-end or grant reporting deadlines.
- Works closely with Finance staff and program leadership to support accurate financial reporting.
